As I sit here reflecting on our first year in Colorado, it’s hard to believe how far we’ve come. It was just one year ago today, on September 30, 2023, that my family and I left the high deserts of Arizona behind and made our way to beautiful Colorado, a place we now call home.
We didn’t know anyone here. No one knew us. Starting a business from scratch in a new place was equal parts thrilling and intimidating. But it’s amazing what a community can do, and it didn’t take long for us to fall in love with the incredible people and the vibrant cities surrounding us. This journey has been one of challenges, learning, and above all—growth.
Starting from Scratch
When we arrived in Greeley, there was no safety net, no established base of clients, and no reputation to lean on. We were building everything from the ground up.
Our business, Made in the Shade Front Range, officially opened its doors the first week of October 2023. The start was not easy. We knew we had to make connections and find ways to introduce ourselves to the community.
One of our first steps was to join both the Greeley and Brighton Chambers of Commerce, eager to meet new people and businesses; attending every networking event we could find, shaking hands and telling anyone who would listen about our passion for delivering quality window coverings and shading solutions. The early days were filled with effort—yard signs, door hangers, cold calls to general contractors, and home show events. We even got creative and joined Facebook groups to engage with locals.
It wasn’t long before we began to see the fruits of our labor. Slowly but surely, we were building not just a customer base, but relationships. Homeowners started trusting us to help them transform their spaces with high-quality shades, blinds, shutters, and more.
Finding a Home in the Front Range
Though the beginning was tough, the welcome we received here in Northern Colorado has been overwhelming. The sense of community, support, and friendship that we’ve found here is something I didn’t expect to come so quickly. In the process of growing our business, Made in the Shade Front Range, we have also grown as a family.
We love serving the cities and neighborhoods in the Front Range—from Greeley, Eaton, and Evans to Brighton, Firestone, and beyond. Whether it’s a new build or a cherished family home, each project we’ve taken on has allowed us to connect with homeowners, contractors, and fellow local businesses. This area is truly special, and we’re proud to be a part of it.
